PBS Acquires the Rights to North American Distribution

“Kimberly Reed’s work has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, NPR, The Moth, and in Details Magazine. One of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film,” she directed/produced PRODIGAL SONS, a “whiplash doc that heralds an exciting talent.” PRODIGAL SONS (First Run Features, Sundance Channel) landed on many Best of the Year lists, screened at more than 100 film festivals, and garnered 14 Audience and Jury awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize. Ms. Reed was recognized as one of OUT Magazine’s “Out 100,” and as Towleroad’s “Best LGBT Character of the Film Year.” She also produced/edited/wrote PAUL GOODMAN CHANGED MY LIFE (Zeitgeist Films), and produced THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON (Netflix).”

Alice Hatcher’s Debut Novel The Wonder That Was Ours
Available September 8
Alum of The Writers Studio Tucson on Long List for First Novel PrizeAlice Hatcher’s debut novel “The Wonder That Was Ours” made the long list for the 2018 The Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. In an essay on her website, the author traces how she felt starting in a beginning class at The Writers Studio Tucson, despite being an accomplished professional with a PhD, and how she found the right voice for her novel by doing exercises. New and Recent Additions to Fall Classes
Hudson Valley Poetry Workshop

This all-poetry workshop is open to students new to The Writers Studio as well as continuing and returning students. More information and registration here.

NYC/Brooklyn Level 1
This eight-week class is a full introduction to The Writers Studio method. Open to writers new to The Writers Studio, and returning students who wish to continue or return to Level 1 in a new, convenient location. More information and registration here.

Online Over-50 Workshop

This six-week class uses exercises by writers who published their first books “on the late side.” Open to all writers 50+ who wish to write fiction, poetry, and/or memoir. Students new to The Writers Studio, as well as continuing and returning students are all welcome. This is an ongoing workshop you can take over and over again, or you can move on to other levels from here by recommendation of the teacher. More information and registrationhere.

Publication news

Kathleen Kraft’s poem “I Am Hanging Up Wet Clothes, In Leaves, Converse” was accepted by Stickman Review, her poem “The Downward Rising and I Go To A Shala” was accepted by REAL, and her poem “Hello Kathleen, Your Shopping Cart is Empty” was accepted by The Satirist. Kathleen is a former NYC Advanced Poetry student.

Alex Pope’s book Girl, World will be published by Laughing Fire Press in the autumn of 2016, her story “Family Matter” was accepted by The Massachusetts Review, her story “Moxie” was accepted by The Tacoma Review, her story “Room 308” was accepted by The Laurel Review. In addition, her essay “The Monster by the River” was accepted by The Matador Review, her essay “Cages: The Intersection of Fear, Racism and Terror” was accepted by Today & Yesterday, her essay “What’s in a Name?” was accepted by SunStruck, and her essay “All Together Now, Penis!: Teaching Feminist Literature in Iraq” was accepted by BUST. Alex is a former student, who last studied with Therese Eiben in Level IV.

Kay Kidd‘s poem “Autobiography” was a Shortlist Poetry Prize winner in Fish Publishing’s 2016 poetry competition. Jay is a student in the Master Class.
