Religion defines us and divides us. Drives us to war, to marriage, to service. Priests and persecution. Culture and customs. Church vs. State. Salvation and dogma. Heaven and Nirvana. Crusades and the Cool Church. Agnostics and Atheists. Robes and wrath. Holy books and history. The words that guide you. The rules that repress you. What’s your way? God? Allah? Yahweh? No way?

Storytellers include Rogue Theatre Board Member Paul Barby, Psychotherapist Susan Walcott Lopez, filmmaker Alex Italics, musician Alex Smythe, and artist and healer Ramjeet Kaur.

ANOTHER AWESOME STORYTELLING EVENT!

Please join Odyssey Storytelling founder Penelope Starr & Kaitlin Meadows at Antigone Books on Friday, November 2, 2012 for “Separate Identities/Shared Identities,” an evening of random personal stories and fabulous poetry. The fun begins at 7 p.m.

The performance duo will explore the question, do our stories define us and give us our uniqueness? In this whimsical evening of fun and fancy, two local mischief makers will explore the question of how unique and how universal our stories really are. Penelope Starr and Kaitlin Meadows will share the stage to entertain, delight, and help you ponder the question: “Am I my stories?” Join us for an evening of fun with time for sharing.
Plan ahead and be adventurous – the construction on 4th Avenue is a challenge but not a deal breaker. There is parking on adjacent streets and a big parking lot ½ block away on 5th Avenue and 7th Street. Here’s a link to the easiest way to get to Antigone http://www.antigonebooks.com/store-info. We would love to see you there.

Show at 7 p.m., Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT

Fluxx Studio and Gallery, 416 E. 9th St., Tucson

still only $7 – get your tickets here

Customers: are they really always right? Stories from the clerk facing the raging latte addicts and drunken ‘last call’ lunatics. Have you been that customer? Be honest! Demanding quality or accepting the schlock. Why do the road workers seem to stand around? To learn the answer press one now, or say “AGENT.” Over or under worked? Over or under paid? Your tax dollars at work! So much red tape! Customers and employees can agree that someone is “right,” and sharing stories about our righteousness is cathartic. Who have you served? Who has served you?

Visit our website to see who is telling.
Note that there is road construction on 4th Ave and on Congress so plan your travels accordingly.

Beth Lapides is a paradigm-shifting cultural visionary.  She’s the creator and host of ‘Un-Cabaret’, the legendary alternative comedy show that created a revolution in personal storytelling – and led to the current wave of storytelling shows around the country including Tucson’s own Odyssey Storytelling.

June 16 & 17, 7:30 p.m. – Beth Lapides curates and hosts “The Other Network”, a festival of the best un-aired TV pilots ever made introduced by their creators, including Conan O’Brien, Ben Stiller and Judd Apatow, starring Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Amy Poehler, Ray Romano and more at The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd. Tickets $8.00 general; $7.00 Loft Cinema members. Double Feature Ticket (good for both nights):  $14.00 general; $12.00 Loft members at The Loft box-office, or call 520-795-0844.

Saturday, June 19, 7 p.m. – Beth Lapides performs her new solo show, “100% Happy 88% of the Time”, a turned-on tour-de-force that combines story, science and standup, multi-media, music and metaphysics at Club Congress, 311 E. Sunday, June 20, 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Beth Lapides and husband/partner Greg Miller lead a special one-day intensive session of “The Comedian’s Way”, a workshop for writers, performers and other humans at Club Congress. $20 at the door, $15 in advance at http://bethlapides.com/.

Odyssey Storytelling- Presents NEW SHOES: THE FASHION SHOW March 4, 2010

This from a new ODYSSEY FAN:

I discovered Oddyssey Storytelling by chance and attended for the first time on February 4. What a spectacular thing you’ve created! Most of the storytellers were extremely compelling, but the evening’s success transcended the strengths and weaknesses of each individual performance. What really mattered was the atmosphere, the space that you and Adam created, which made it possible for the storytellers to shine.

I’ve had some great experiences in Tucson, but none more memorable than my experience at Odyssey Storytelling. B.C.

SEE FOR YOURSELF on Thursday, March 4 at our 6th anniversary show at the Hotel Congress, 311 E. Congress St. The theme is New Shoes: The Fashion Show, curated by Sarah K. Smith and the lineup looks great! Doors open at 6:30, show at 7.

TO MAKE SURE YOU GET A SEAT, buy your tickets

      QUESTIONS?   Contact Penelope Starr, 520-730-4112

Have dinner at the Cup Cafe (reservations recommended: 798-1618) in the historic Hotel Congress OR at the new Maynard’s Market and Kitchen on Toole Ave in the Historic Train Depot (reservations recommended: 545-0577), let them know you’re going to Odyssey, and they will reserve a seat for you at the show. penelope@odysseystorytelling.com or Adam Hostetter, adam@odysseystorytelling.com.
