New Authors, New Releases

I’ve been lax in my duties. Since I last posted here we’ve released two new titles. Here they are, in order of release:

ks_200On February 19, we released Kindred Spirits by D. A. Riley. In this paranormal romance suspense thriller, Jeannette Carpenter, a famous author, has isolated herself on her family’s island off the coast of Massachusetts after being viciously assaulted and nearly killed. She’s known since childhood that her house is haunted, but when a mysterious man washes up on her beach, battered and unconscious just before a Nor’easter hits, she is forced into dealing with her fear of strangers. It’s either that or let him die.

Jeannette is not prepared for what fate has in store for her. Back-to-back storms result in her being trapped with James Callahan, who has no idea who he is or how he washed up on her beach. As his memories return piecemeal, his own past invades the sanctity of her island and her fears and suppressed anguish are reawakened. Still, they seem to have been made for each other, kindred spirits, and all the while she struggles against her increasing desire for him.

As long as they’re trapped on the island anyway, first by storms and later by circumstances, she and James travel together through generations of her family’s history to solve a 140 year old crime. In doing so, they enable the reunion of her great-great-grandfather and great-great-grandmother, thereby releasing the ghosts who have been imprisoned in the family house.

Purple Sunshine_200On March 12, we released Purple Sunshine by Bob Calverley. Jonesing for an authentic hit of the ’60s? Before he’s drafted, Jimmy “Purple” Hayes’ psychedelic band was on the cusp of success: getting paid, getting laid and getting high. Home on leave, he’s playing blues at Clyde Bonaventure’s illegal after hours Detroit club, when he falls hard for Gloria.

A teenage runaway, Gloria is a musical savant with a complex of emotional issues after a lifetime of abuse at the hand of her murderous pedophile stepfather. A wealthy attorney and accountant, Matthew Doran keeps books for the Gargano crime family and other unsavory characters. Few know—or admit to knowing—but Gloria knows, and she’s learning more about his dark secrets all the time.

Gloria and Jimmy share a secret. They know who killed two policemen during in Detroit’s urban riot, and they know why. It’s easy to keep secrets while they’re making musical magic with their studio musician friend Roscoe. It’s not so easy when Jimmy’s off to Vietnam and Gloria’s on the streets alone.

Trained to fix helicopters, Jimmy finds sleeping on a mattress and eating hot chow beats being a grunt in the bush. But instead of fixing them, he’s a helicopter door gunner, and he’s good at it. He also smokes a little dope, and the corrupt first sergeant, Jubal Sypher, wants to put him in Long Binh Jail. Soon Jimmy’s transferred to the Headhunters, the gunship platoon, and killing is his main job. His transformation from peace, love and rock and roll to violence is complete.

On the streets, Gloria is the hippie chick Sunshine when she’s singing for her supper. She can dazzle music professors or the crowd at an antiwar rally with ease. She doesn’t like what she’s learning about herself, especially when the rage building up inside her ignites. Her stepfather wants her dead. The Garganos want her dead. The police just want her. She’s proving adept at running away, especially when she literally goes underground. And for the first time in her life, she’s making friends. But she’s running out of money and her pursuers are closing in.

Can Detroit’s sneaky five-foot one homicide detective Al Checchi and Staff Sergeant Jimmy Ray Suggs, the Army’s smoothly efficient CID investigator, unravel a trail of murders that stretches all the way from Detroit to Vietnam? Why does the media believe that Jimmy and the U.S. Army massacred more than a hundred unarmed civilians? Will Gloria learn to manage her rage in time save her soul? Can Jimmy help her? Just maybe he can.

Beginning with the August 1967 Detroit riot and moving to a heart-pounding conclusion shortly after the February 1968 Tet Offensive, Purple Sunshine stretches around the world from Michigan to Vietnam with non-stop action and unexpected twists.

You can get Purple Sunshine—the book, not the acid—for 20% off for a limited time atSmashwords. Just enter coupon code BT99Q (not case sensitive) during the checkout process. This title is also available at Amazon and other major retailers.

Lauren Grossman Author- ONCE IN EVERY GENERATION

Lauren Grossman’s ONCE IN EVERY GENERATION is now available at the Kindle store (http.//bit.ly(fVAPao). “I made the decision to convert my book to Kindle format. Too many people asked me if it was available as an e-book. I caved. It seems there is no escaping the future.”

“Also, please take a moment and view the book trailer for ONCE IN EVERY GENERATION, now available on Youtube.com. “Video trailer are fast becoming an essential part of book promotion. While this is all news to me, apparently millions of savvy internet readers (and I never claimed to be savvy), are using video book trailers as a way to find their next read. Please share this on Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, or however you can spread the word. I really appreciate it!”

Anastasia Rabiyah writes romantic speculative fiction in many heat levels from sweet to erotic.  Blending romance with spec fic (paranorma, horror, science fiction, or fantasy) is a mix she has always loved.  She tends to focus on the dark side of the paranormal and fantasy genres, her main theme being one of redemption through love.  In her works readers will often find demons in the physical and not so physical sense of the word.

Born in Almagordo, New Mexico, in 1973 she is a native of the desert southwestern United States.  She has lived in Arizona since she was four.  Her first publication in the romance genre was ROPE, an erotic novella included in the anthology COWBOYS, loveyoudivine 2007.  ROPE is set on a rural guest ranch in Tucson.

       Reviews

“A strangely compelling tale, DEMON IN THE BASEMENT captures you and pulls you in as the past and its effect on the present and the future is revealed.  Emme is an intriguing heroine as she strive to right past wrongs.  Nazan is reminiscent of the ugly duckling as he comes back into his own.  A delightfully satisfying tale, DEMON IN THE BASEMENT is sure to touch your heart and engage your emotions.  Pick this one, sit back, relax and be prepared to be surprised and entertained.  Anastasia Rabiyah knows how to satisfy her readers.” – Elise Lyn, EcataRomance.com

“This is a very erotic story of a woman and the demon who wants her.  The setting of a lonely farmhouse is perfect for this tale and the author’s descriptions of the two characters and their relationship is very vivid.  Abra is a very strong willed woman and she resists Val pretty successfully, finding out his name and getting what she wants without giving up herself to him.  I also liked the descriptions of the angel and demon paintings and the hints of Val’s self before the Fall.  The sex scenes are very descriptive and very, very hot; making me glad Abra did not lock her gate after all.”- Maura, Coffee Time Romance

      E-BOOKS

E-Books are a relatively new way to read.  They can be purchased instantly online or through an e-reading device such as the Nook, Kindle, Sony Reader, and many others.  The benefits of e-books are many: often half the price of print books, less cost to produce, instant gratification, extremely portable (you can keep a whole library on your reader or PC’s memory card), don’t collect dust, and they have opened up the door to many new authors by allowing small publishers to produce and distribute alongside large publishers.  also, you can buy an e-book from the privacy of your own home dressed in your pajamas if you wish!

Anastasia has many books available in e-formats from short stories to novellas and even novel length works.  Here is a Booklist of titles she currently has available and where you can find them.  If you’ve never tried an e-book, there are many free reads available at Ana’s publishers: PurpleSword.com and AmiralPress.com which will give you the opportunity to see how e-books work.
