The Benefit: The Poetry Center celebrates its 50th Anniversary with former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins and special guests, actress Patricia Clarkson (Cairo Time, Shutter Island, Easy A), Arizona Daily Star cartoonist David Fitzsimmons, KXCI Radio’s Ernesto Portillo, Jr., and poet Howard Altmann.
Billy Collins sees poetry as a “form or travel writing” and considers humor “a door into the serious.” He’ll be reading his own poems and his special guests will share their best-loved poems written by others.
The event, which is a benefit for the Poetry Center, takes place on the Centennial Hall stage, where Robert Frost read in November 1960, following the dedication of the Poetry Center in a small bungalow on Highland Avenue.
Now an internationally renowned literary arts center housed in a beautiful, landmark building, the Poetry Center invites you to join in on this 50th anniversary celebration.
Come experience the impact poetry and literature has
on our lives and in our communities.
