The Benefit: The Poetry Center celebrates its 50th Anniversary with former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins and special guests, actress Patricia Clarkson (Cairo Time, Shutter Island, Easy A), Arizona Daily Star cartoonist David Fitzsimmons, KXCI Radio’s Ernesto Portillo, Jr., and poet Howard Altmann.

Billy Collins sees poetry as a “form or travel writing” and considers humor “a door into the serious.” He’ll be reading his own poems and his special guests will share their best-loved poems written by others.

The event, which is a benefit for the Poetry Center, takes place on the Centennial Hall stage, where Robert Frost read in November 1960, following the dedication of the Poetry Center in a small bungalow on Highland Avenue.

Now an internationally renowned literary arts center housed in a beautiful, landmark building, the Poetry Center invites you to join in on this 50th anniversary celebration.

Come experience the impact poetry and literature has
on our lives and in our communities.

Student, faculty, and staff tickets begin as low as $15. Contact UApresents at the Centennial Hall Box Office at (520) 621-3341 or uapresents.org.

will open to authors and volunteers at 11:00 AM.   Admission is free to the
public 11:30AM-3:00PM.

         Our special guest this year is David Fitzsimmons, editorial cartoonist
for the Arizona Daily Star. If you’ve ever seen him at a charity event, you
know we’re in for a treat of a wild ride! Fitz will do caricatures and sign
autographs beginning at 2:00PM.

   Go to www.wranglingwithwriting.com, download and print out the coupon for
the Book Fair, and bring it and a couple of things for the Community Food
Bank and receive 10% off of the most expensive item you’ll purchase at the
Book Fair.

   This is an excellent opportunity to market your work to the Tucson

sell yet, bring your friends and neighbors to shop for gifts that never wear
out, are always the right size, and never go bad-great
