This holiday season, consider making a gift in support of one of the best places for poetry in the world—the University of Arizona Poetry Center.Donate now.
Gifts from people just like you empower the Poetry Center to make a larger place for poetry as an art form and a critical educational tool. Each year, we raise 75% of our programmatic budget from private sources. These funds allow us to offer free literary programs such as our Visiting Writer Reading & Lecture series, which brings nationally acclaimed writers to Tucson and Phoenix.
Another program funded by your donations is our “Writing Your Community” program, in which University of Arizona students lead six-week creative writing workshops for Tucson schoolchildren. Both groups of students learn valuable skills, and best of all, we provide this outreach to schools free of charge. Demand for the program is high; we’re working to increase capacity so that we can meet requests for the program in eighteen different classrooms in the spring.
Another important form of educational outreach we do is through our Field Trip program. Last year, we offered 65 different field trips to the Poetry Center to students of all ages, serving nearly one thousand students—a record for us!
