Utility Box Murals Update
Proposal to Hire Artists Moves Forward
Last Sunday the Arizona Daily Star ran a front page article about our proposal to hire artists to to paint murals in schools, neighborhoods and community centers. This came on the heels of a recent KGUN 9 report on our proposal to hire artists to paint utility boxes has gained allot of support.

On Friday August 7 the Arts Brigade was authorized to move forward with our first partner the City of Tucson Environmental Services. We are seeking matching funds, and will then issue a call to artists.

City Council Members have realized that a great deal of money can be saved while we beautify the city, and put artists to work doing what they do best. It’s a win win for everyone. The concept is simple. The city, local utilities and property owners are painting over the same areas over and over, year in and year out. When a well designed mural is installed it’s a one time cost that pays for itself in less than 2 years. Suddenly the tagging stops. Taggers like everyone else respect well considered works of art.

Stay tuned for how to apply for this opportunity.
