THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS
by Gavin Kayner
Winner of the Long Beach Playhouse and Theater Conspiracy New Play Prizes
Two sisters, one channeling Emily Dickinson – the other engaged in a delusion her doll is a living baby, drag a body across
the floor and stuff it into the refrigerator. At dawn an escaped prisoner with whom the younger sister, Emma, has been
exchanging torrid letters breaks into their solitary lives. Despite herself Emma is beguiled. Maria, the older sister, strives
to protect their secret, her baby Grace and themselves. Walter toys with them. These three – prisoners by conviction –
confront one another until one of them is finally set free.
