WELCOME CCI GRADUATE FELLOWS
Congratulations to CCI’s 14 Graduate Fellows, who were collectively awarded $52,000 for interdisciplinary research during the 2014-2015 academic year. The students hail from the colleges of Fine Arts, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs. The fascinating research topics range from American Enclaves/Strange Secluded Communities to Restoration of Arid Lands in Northern China to the creation of “Nahuatl Naman,” the first application for mobile devices that allows users to learn Nahuatl, an indigenous language of Mexico. Our new Communications and Events Coordinator Jamie Manser, joined the team this week.

A UA Journalism graduate, Jamie’s professional background includes working with the Downtown Tucson Partnership and KXCI Community Radio 91.3FM. She was the editor of, and a regular contributor to, Zócalo Magazine and is also the 2ndSaturdays Downtown Program Director. Jamie has a passion for music, the arts, culture and community and is extremely excited to be a part of Confluencenter’s collaborations that inspire and support innovative research and interdisciplinary endeavors.
Director’s Fund for Excellence

Proposals for The Director’s Fund for Excellence awards are due September 19th by 5:00 pm.  These awards of up to $2,000 are intended to provide critical support for short-term, collaborative, interdisciplinary projects that occur during the fall semester. UA faculty and/or graduate students in the Colleges of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences may submit a proposal for consideration.
