Society of Southwestern Authors- SSA Conference October 12-14, 2012 THE NEW CENTURY IN PUBLISHING

Registration is now open for the upcoming Wrangling with Writing Writers’ Conference, “The New Century in Publishing”. Since our last conference in 2010, the world of writing an publishing has changed in many significant ways. Of course, we’ll have a selection of tried and true sessions to help you hone the craft of writing, along with session detailing current trends in publishing, marketing, doing your own PR, and session discussing current trends in hot topics and genres. Our keynote speaker is Stefan Kanfer and our featured speaker is JA Jance. Further information about these authors and rest of our faculty will be posted to the SSA website.

The conference will take place October 12-14, 2012, at the Double Tree resort in Tucson. Rooms are available at a reduced price of $99 + tax and are based on double occupancy. We will have approximately 20 breakout sessions, two panel discussions, and two impromptu events: one at the beginning and one at the end of the conference. A schedule of sessions will be posted to the web. Session times and topics are still subject to change.

Authors will also have the opportunity to “pitch” their ideas to agents, editors and publishers in 10-15 minute sessions at a cost of $20 each. A listing of faculty will be available near the end of August, if not sooner.

Early bird registration is $195 for SSA members until August 31, 2012. After August registration is $215. Non-member registration is $245. Don’t wait! Seating is limited to the first 150 registrants!

And we will have a writing contest with three categories:

. Best Query Letter

. Your First 100 Words

. A poem celebrating Arizona’s first 100 years of statehood.

PRIZES: First prize is $1,000, second prize $500, and third prize $250.

LITERARY AGENCIES: The three prizewinners and seven honorable mentions will be considered for representation by William Morris Endeavor, ICM, Regal Library, the Elaine Markson Literary Agency, Inkwell Management, Sterling Lord Literistic, Aitken Alexander Associates, Baren Literary, the Gernert Company, and the Georges Borchardt Literary Agency.

DATES: Entries must be complete by October 1, 2012. Results will be announced on the website December 15, 2012 and in the Spring 2013 issue of Zoetrope. All-Story; and the winning story will be published as a special online supplement to that Spring 2013 issue.
