HOUSE WITH TWO DOORS

by Ricardo Pimentel

In 1967 San Bernardino, the Rivera family is on the verge of upheaval. Fidel is cheating on his wife. His eldest son, Bert, is on his way to fight in Vietnam, and his younger son is hanging out with a gang. When Fidel’s wife, Soledad, falls in love with the sergeant who has recruited Bert, she exacts from him a promise that permanently change the way the Rivera family think and feel about each other.

Playwrights Foundation- Rent-A-Womb and Imaginary Frenchmen: Spotlight on 35th Annual Bay Area Playwright’s FestivaL Playwright Lauren Yee

Playwrights Foundation- Rent-A-Womb and Imaginary Frenchmen: Spotlight on 35th Annual Bay Area Playwright’s FestivaL Playwright Lauren Yee

In anticipation of the 35th Annual Bay Area Playwright’s Festival, July 20-29,2012 zoom in on Lauren Yee. Seasoned playwright, award-winner, and author of Impact Theater’s hit production of CHING CHONG CHINAMAN, and San Francisco native. A staged reading of Yee’s hysterical fantasia, SAMASARA will be presented as part of this year’s Festival of new works. The play explores the controversial topic of international surrogacy with Lauren’s typical off beat humor. Think about it: a play with a walking, talking Zygote and an ostentatious Frenchman ‘bad angel’ (especially now that the Des Voix Festival is over!)makes good fun of a serious situation.

Lauren elaborates in a recent interview: “The genesis for Samsara started with a news article… where childless couples can essentially “rent out” a womb.” But Lauren tells her story with wild fancy and delightful theatricality in which the character’s inner worlds are played out through the vessel of their collective imagination..
