University of Arizona Poetry Center- WHAT WE CAN ACCOMPLISH TOGETHER, a letter from Gail Browne, Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Thanks to you this has been an astonishing 50th Anniversary year for the Poetry Center and for the many people in our community who are deeply moved by the power of poetry and literature. You have my heartfelt gratitude for your past support of the Poetry Center. Donors like you are at the core of everything we do and everything we dream we can accomplish together. Your contribution allows us to reach new audiences for poetry and to continue to nurture the thriving community of readers, writers and lifelong learners we’ve served for decades.

The impact of your gift is enduring.

Did you know that each $100 we raise through the Friends of the Poetry Center enables one 4 to 8 year old to attend our Saturday morning Poetry Joeys program? A contribution of $500 supports a corrido contest residency in a high school classroom. A gift of $1,000 helps us bring a visiting poet to Tucson. By supporting the Poetry Center, part of your personal legacy is woven into the fabric of this timeless art.

As we bring our 50th anniversary celebrations to a close we’re already hard at work on our 2011–2012 season. Will you give now to help us continue to provide free community programming that allows us to bring poetry and literature to so many? Thank you for your generosity and partnership as we do the work set forth by our founder, Ruth Stephan—to maintain and cherish the spirit of poetry here and beyond.

Sincerely, Gail Browne, Executive Director

Sydney Writers’ Centre- Internship Opportunity

Internship opportunity for aspiring feature writers/journalists
Would you like to learn from the best? Are you interested in journalism and writing? Do you want to be part of the team at Australia’s leading writers’ centre?

We have a rare opportunity for an intern at the Sydney Writers’ Centre at Milsons Point. You’ll get to work as part of our team producing an exciting new online magazine – all about writing, books and creativity. You must be in at least your second year of journalism studies at university or higher and have a passion for feature writing, interviewing people and crafting articles.

You’ll hone your writing skills, meet successful authors and work directly with the talented team at the Centre and with me, Valerie Khoo – journalist and director of the Sydney Writers’ Centre. This is a unique opportunity for a self-starting individual who can work independently but who also thrives on guidance from a professional writer.

If you can commit to at least two days a week (or more), internships run in four-week blocks with the opportunity to extend. Apply by sending your resume, information about the courses you have studied and at least three samples of your writing to courses [at] spindriftmedia [dot] com [dot] au.

Applications close Monday 27 June 2011.
