Dear Randy

Exit, Pursued By Bear is a hilariously brutal, fast moving, crazy fun revenge comedy—based on a stage direction…

Directed by Meredith Weiss Friedman

  • Monday, May 17, 7:30pm at Stanford University. Contact David Goldman for more information at davidg1@stanford.edu.
  • Tuesday, May 18, 7pm at Climate Theater, 285 9th Street at Folsom, San Francisco. Contact Jill at Playwrights Foundation for more information and to reserve a space at jill@playwrightsfoundation.org.

About Exit, Pursued By Bear
A revolution is going on “over there,” but for the beautiful young Nan Clark married to the hotly abusive Kyle, the revolution is personal. This thickly humid July 3rd Nan is finishing what she started a year ago: the annihilation of her husband and the cage-breaking resuscitation of her own life using her friends, her idolization of Jimmy Carter and the local wildlife.

Part “I Love Lucy”, part Jacobean revenge tragedy, part beautiful ballet, part nature special and part feminist power ballad set in the North Georgia mountains. Exit is not over till the bears are in pursuit.

Exit, Pursued by a Bear is a play based on one violent stage direction*. Likewise, our heroine will sacrifice it all to get out in this hilariously brutal modern revenge comedy.

*The Winter’s Tale by Shakespeare.

New to the Bay Area, we are sure to see more of Lauren Gunderson in the coming year with commissions from Marin Theatre Company and South Coast Rep! To read more about Lauren, visit her website at www.LaurenGunderson.com.

Odyssey Storytelling- June 3, 2010 Show CANCELLED. However, LA’s comedy guru Beth Lapides comes to Tucson

Everybody out of the pool, the Odyssey water show scheduled for June 3 is CANCELLED.   But you can still celebrate Monsoon Safety Awareness Week on June 8th through the 12th.

Don’t fret, you’ll still have lots of fun things to do in June when LA’s comedy guru Beth Lapides comes to Tucson with mini-festival.   You can see two collections of The Other Network at the Loft, Beth’s solo show 100% Happy 88% of the Time, and a one-day intensive workshop, The Comedian’s Way both at the Club Congress.

Beth Lapides is a paradigm-shifting cultural visionary.  She’s the creator and host of ‘Un-Cabaret’, the legendary alternative comedy show that created a revolution in personal storytelling – and led to the current wave of storytelling shows around the country including Tucson’s own Odyssey Storytelling.

She has appeared on NPR, Politically Incorrect and Sex and the City.  She’s the author of “Did I Wake You”, a critically acclaimed book of haiku and writes a column called “My Other Car is a Yoga Mat” for LA Yoga Magazine.

Wed. & Thurs. June 16 & 17, 7:30 p. m. – Beth curates and hosts “The Other Network”, a festival of the best un-aired TV pilots ever made introduced by their creators, including Conan O’Brien, Ben Stiller and Judd Apatow, starring Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Amy Poehler, Ray Romano and more at The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd. Tickets $8.00 general; $7.00 Loft Cinema members. Double Feature Ticket (good for both nights):  $14.00 general; $12.00 Loft members at The Loft box-office, or call 520-795-0844.

Saturday, June 19, 7 p.m. – Beth performs her new solo show, “100% Happy 88% of the Time“, a turned-on tour-de-force that combines story, science and standup, multi-media, music and metaphysics at Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St. Tickets are $15 at the door, $10 in advance at http://bethlapides.com/.

Sunday, June 20, 11:00 – 2:30 – Beth and husband/partner Greg Miller lead a special one-day intensive session of “The Comedian’s Way”, a workshop for writers, performers and other humans at Club Congress. $20 at the door, $15 in advance at http://bethlapides.com/.

Contact Penelope if you want more info about any of these exciting events!

The next Odyssey show is I QUIT: MOVING ON, on July 1. Tell about when youd had it and you wouldn’t take it anymore!  That lousy job!  When you quit smoking, or drinking, or breaking hearts. Remember that miserable winter that you ditched to move to Tucson?  What are those things you’ve left behind?  Has anything (or anyone) ever quit you?   Contact Adam Hostetter, adam@odysseystorytelling.com, with a synopsis of your story.
